Destiny Discover - Destiny Discover is the online catalog of physical books inside the library.  Use this link to locate your school’s catalog.  Books may be searched by title, author, topic or genre.  Once a title is selected, the full description of the work may be viewed.

Parents and guardians can view their child’s library checkouts through Destiny Discover, our district library system.

• Use the same email address you registered your child with for school to log in.
• This provides secure access to see what your student has checked out.
• Parents may also search and block titles from being checked out.

Sora - Sora is an online library of ebooks and audiobooks.  Students only see books appropriate for their age range.  Parents may view their student’s Sora account and enable Parental Controls via their student’s Classlink login credentials.

How it works: 

• Parents/guardians can enable Parental Controls by logging into their child’s Sora account and navigating to Settings > Support: Parental Controls.   
• Once enabled, parents can create a secure PIN to access Parent Mode. Parent Mode allows them to lock or unlock titles.  
• Locking a title prevents the student from borrowing or reading it in Sora, and unlocking it makes it available again in their Sora account.  
• Exiting Parent Mode returns Sora to the student experience.  

Important notes: 

• Titles must be locked individually (e.g., ebook and audiobook versions of the same title, or titles in other languages, must be locked separately).   
• If a title is locked, it cannot be borrowed or read via the student’s main Sora collection nor through any added school or public libraries. 
• Parent Mode requires an internet connection. Locked titles cannot be borrowed or read, regardless of whether a student is online or offline.  
• Adjustments made in Parent Mode apply only to that individual student’s Sora account.

How may I help my student select a book?  Every book is perfect for someone, but not every book is perfect for everyone. As you or your student searches for a book, pay attention to book genres, descriptions, and interest levels. If your student checks out a book that isn't right for them, feel free to return it and find another one better suited for them. An interest level of YA or Adult may indicate a difficult reading level, general content, or mature content. Parents and guardians are encouraged to communicate with the campus librarian and their child's teacher about special considerations regarding library materials self-selected by their child. Parents may access their student’s Destiny account to view checkouts, search books, and block titles.

How to recommend a book for your school library: To recommend a book for your student’s campus library, please visit your campus library webpage and fill out the “Ask the Librarian” form. 

What to do if you have a concern about a book? If a parent has a concern regarding a book, first talk with the campus librarian.  The librarian will make an informal review.  If after the review the librarian feels the book meets the selection criteria, the parent may choose to do a formal reconsideration request. Duncanville ISD libraries provide a variety of digital content for student use.  Many of the district’s databases are part of a larger consortium called TexQuest.  Parents may view the login information for all of the online library resources using this link.  This document is password protected and may be accessed with student credentials.  All library resources may also be accessed through Classlink using student credentials.

Beanstack - Beanstack is an app used to track independent reading time, and help build a culture of reading in school and at home. Beanstack makes it easier for kids to track reading, stay motivated to read, and develop positive reading habits.  Beanstack is available to all students in the district.  

Britannica School / Britannica Escolar - Britannica School is an online library of hundreds of thousands of high-quality articles, videos and images created and maintained by Encyclopedia Britannica, Inc. 

EBSCO LearningExpress - EBSCO LearningExpress is an online platform for academic skill building, standardized test preparation, and career-oriented digital content. It includes test preparation for 3rd grade and up, as well as content to explore college and career options.  Students may create their own accounts to keep track of their learning.

Ebsco Flipster - Flipster is a digital magazine subscription service that provides access to magazines.  This is a high school subscription that may be accessed through Classlink using student credentials.  

Gale - Gale is a research database of articles, images, audio clips, and other digital reference materials for a wide range of grade levels and content areas.

ProQuest Sirs Discoverer - SIRS® Discoverer® is a multidisciplinary database specifically designed for middle school and high school learners, researchers, and educators covering curriculum areas such as history, health, language arts, math, science, social studies, and technology.
